Many of us make a living from driving the roads of the world that’s why they are called commercial drivers. Without commercial drivers, economies would largely come to a stop and people wouldn’t be able to move around. The solidarity of commercial drivers towards their colleagues and the appreciation of what they do is strong and it is critical that the support in solidarity is maintained. Through the formation of the World Commercial Drivers Board and widespread membership of this group, commercial drivers now have a platform to share their experiences, their challenges and their advice.
Commercial drivers servicing a number of industries face risks and challenges on a daily basis. Whether these drivers are facing extreme winter driving conditions, extreme driving hours or dangerous traffic conditions, risks are typically constant, resulting in a subsequent increase of stress. Through a commercial drivers group, experiences can be shared to mitigate possible risks and techniques discussed on how to better deal with the inevitable stress. In addition, there are skills that can be shared and learnt from fellow commercial drivers. By sharing these experiences and learning in a group, there can be much wider and quicker learning and skills enhancement.
No matter what vehicle is used in commercial, whether it is a car for taxi purposes or a large mining haul trucks, vehicle handling is skill that can be enhanced on an ongoing basis. Driving in wintery rain or snow conditions is not always an intuitive skill but through the involvement of experienced winter drivers in a group and the distribution of their tips and advice, inexperienced drivers can quickly hone their own skills for the upcoming winter season.
